E-filing US Tax Returns — A Glance:
E-filing is the process of electronically filing tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The COVID-19 pandemic and recent IRS lockdown has demonstrated it is now more important than ever to have your US tax returns e-filed.
What are the Benefits of E-filing?
Cost-Effective and Environmentally Friendly
E-filing is a substantial cost saver. Individuals who use e-filing no longer must physically mail documents which avoids spending on postal fees and other courier charges.
With that, businesses produce less paper, which in turn makes this a more environmentally friendly process.
Time Saver
From the beginning of 2021, the IRS was still reportedly processing millions of paper returns received from the 2019 tax year largely due to the disruptions and closures caused by Covid-19. By using the electronic filing system, processing times are significantly quicker. This also means tax refunds are received much more quickly.
E-filing also saves time for our clients, as they have the convenience of Hansen Sweeney being able to e-file on their behalf. No more trips to the Post Office and waiting in long queues!
Electronic Receipt
A unique benefit of e-filing is that the tax filer receives a delivery confirmation notice within 48 hours of transmitting the documents. This confirmation provides proof that your tax return has been received and will be processed. This is a significant development and very reassuring.
This is a much less stressful way of filing compared to paper. When you utilize paper filing, the only receipt you have is from the Post Office. This means that you will not be notified whether your tax return has been received until it has been processed. Until then, there is always the genuine possibility that the IRS have simply not received your return.
This peace of mind is particularly important given the much-publicized IRS backlog of millions of paper-filed returns awaiting processing.
More Accuracy, Less Manipulation
E-filing provides a more accurate tax filing process as it prevents transposition and other user errors. The e-filing process is designed to check tax/account reporting automatically and process data more accurately. This means less taxpayer IRS notices!
